It has been almost 5 years since the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie released. Now, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that they are making two more movies and Margot Robbie is going to lead one of those.
Speaking to The Sunday Times about Top Gun: Maverick, Jerry revealed the undergoing work on the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie and said “Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without”. The obvious next question was will Johnny Depp return as Captain Jack Sparrow to which Jerry answered honestly and said that right now it wasn’t a possibility. Fans can still think that there might be some glimmer of hope for his return, however; Depp himself confirmed that he will never reprise his role again in his ongoing legal battle with Amber Heard.
Nevertheless, this is definitely exciting news for fans of the franchise considering it has been 5 years since ‘Salazar’s Revenge’ released. The movie did kind of end on a note that tied everything up in a knot and possibly ended the Pirates’ saga. Hence, it will be interesting to see how the filmmakers pick up from there considering there is no Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbosa as well.
A sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie was confirmed before with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin working on a reboot. Margot Robbie’s appearance was also confirmed in a different movie but it seems that it will become a reality only now.
The popular movie series based on the Disney World ride has had a turbulent few years but hopefully it will be able to get back to its former glory. The movies started going somewhat downhill after the Davy Jones Trilogy but there is still hope for the revival of the franchise.
