Nigerian American director Julius Onah, who is known for directing The Cloverfield Paradox will helm Anthony Mackie’s Captain America 4. Besides working on the 2018 Netflix feature, Onah has also worked on 2019’s Luce, starring Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, Kelvin Harrison Jr, and Tim Roth.
Mackie will play Captain America in Captain America 4, as his character Sam Wilson takes on the mantle on the big screen for the very first time. Mackie played the role of The Falcon in the MCU before he became Captain America towards the end of the 2021 Disney Plus series Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator Malcolm Spellman is writing the script with staff writer Dalan Musson. There is no information on Chris Evans returning to the movie in his role of Steve Rogers, or if Sebastian Stan’s Bucky/Winter Soldier would be in the movie.
No start date or official title for Captain America 4 has been revealed yet, but there is a chance it will be revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con later this month. The studio’s last presentation at the SDDC was in 2019, and the convention was postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chris Evans played Captain America in three movies on the character, and he also appeared in four Avengers films. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Rogers retired and crowned Mackie’s Sam Wilson the next Captain America. This story was then expanded upon in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Disney’s first original Marvel series saw Sam Wilson and Bucky’s reunion and the villain Baron Zemo.
