Love (and Thunder) is brewing in the air, as the long-awaited fourth movie of the Thor franchise is finally out. The film features standout performances from the likes of Chris Hemsworth, who repriseS his role as the one and only Norse God of Thunder.
While the film releases in theatres around the world today, Indian fans were rewarded with an early release, as the film opened in theatres on Thursday. Many theatres have lined up slots one after the other for the Marvel movie, with select multiplexes offering an uninterrupted run of shows for 96 hours until July 10.
Marvel Studios’ decision to open the movie a day earlier seems to have paid off massively, as the film grossed Rs. 24 crore for its box office performance in theatres on Thursday. With the weekend set to begin tomorrow, that figure will likely rise, and the movie is expected to earn a lot of money, and many industry experts have claimed that it might perform similarly to some of the blockbusters that have released in 2022, which include DC’s The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick and Marvel’s very own Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
While Thor: Love and Thunder isn’t slated to perform like Avengers: Endgame or Spider-Man: No Way Home, the studio should be more than satisfied with the response from the large swathes of fans in the Indian subcontinent, as the country has slowly become a new haven for comic book movie addicts outside the United States.
Even with the mixed reception towards the Taika Waititi-directed film, fans are making their way to the theatres to watch another important film in the long running Marvel Cinematic Universe, and box office openings like this will definitely be very commonplace for future MCU films as well.
