Supporting SMB eCommerce in 2022.

As I was doing my holiday shopping toward the end of 2021, I realized just how many of my product searches began on a very large, popular eCommerce site that many of us use as our default online shopping destination. What I realized I wasn’t doing though, was buying from small and medium businesses on the web.

Having spent the last 26 years working in digital and with digital-first businesses, I know all too well the value of a strong and diverse economy on the web, and buying from small and medium businesses is a healthy and important part of the diversity that gives the web its strength.

That’s why I’ve decided to commit to making at least one purchase from a small or medium-sized WooCommerce store, every single month of 2022.

I’m calling it my Woo Year’s resolution and I’d love for you to join me in doing the same.

Now, of course, you may not buy something from a Woo store every single month like I will, but making a point out of “buying Woo” is a great way to support small and medium-sized eCommerce stores on the web.

To make it easier for you to join me in this Woo Year’s resolution, I’ve made the following video to show you some of the techniques I’ll use to find awesome WooCommerce stores throughout the year to fulfill my resolution:

In the video, I walk through the four techniques I will use to find specific products or get inspired by some of the best WooCommerce sites on the web:

If you’d like to join me in your own Woo Year’s resolution let us know in the comments or tag us on Twitter @wpengine and use the hashtag #buywoo22!

Also, thanks to the awesome team at WooCommerce who provided a few staff picks of their favorite small and medium eCommerce stores using Woo. Check out what they had to say:

Ken Lam, Customer Success

Favorite site: ioliving.co.uk

“What’s interesting about Inside Out Living is their focus to bring the indoor lifestyle outdoors. They have a great blog section with lots of curated content to support and encourage that lifestyle. They also recently started designing and manufacturing their own furniture. Everyone in the company is very customer-focused, from the CEO who speaks to customers daily to a published phone number and chat function on the homepage. My favorite part is the mobile experience, it brings together shopping, social, community, and instant chat really well.”

Jonathan Marsan, Data Scientist

Favorite site: bettersax.com

“Jay, the founder, provides such engaging content. I’ve learned a ton of tips on how to become a better saxophone player through the courses they offer and their social media channels.”

Beau Lebens, Head of Engineering

Favorite site: rodeo-labs.com

“I love this site because it integrates content, social, and commerce, but most of all because the folks who run it are an awesome small custom bike shop here in Denver, who have a cult following all around the world. They’re able to operate their direct-to-consumer business, end to end on WooCommerce, and it feels great to know I’m part of that in some small way.”
